The Real Reason Bedtime Feels So Hard
Sensory Processing, Dysregulation & Sleep
Bedtime resistance is often treated like a behavior problem — but for many babies and toddlers, there’s something deeper happening underneath the struggle.
Join Kenyon Gatlin, Certified Pediatric Sleep Consultant and Founder of Nite Nite Baby, alongside pediatric occupational therapist Sophia Garbutt, OTR/L, OTD, for a live educational workshop exploring the connection between sensory processing, nervous system regulation, emotional overwhelm, and sleep.
This workshop is part of the Collaborative Care Sleep & Development Workshop Series, designed to help parents better understand the hidden patterns that can impact bedtime struggles, frequent night wakings, emotional dysregulation, hyperactivity before bed, difficulty settling, restless sleep, and overall sleep quality.
Many families are told their child is “just fighting sleep,” “overtired,” or “being difficult” at bedtime. But in reality, some children experience bedtime as a period of nervous system overload, sensory dysregulation, emotional flooding, or difficulty transitioning their bodies into a calm, regulated state for sleep.
In this workshop, we’ll explore:
How sensory processing challenges can show up as bedtime resistance or night wakings
Why some children appear “wired but exhausted” at bedtime
The connection between nervous system regulation and sleep quality
How sensory sensitivities, overstimulation, movement needs, and emotional regulation impact settling and sleep
Why some toddlers escalate emotionally at bedtime despite being tired
How screen time, sensory overload, and dysregulation can affect nighttime sleep
Practical ways parents can support calmer evenings, smoother bedtime transitions, and more restful sleep
This workshop is ideal for:
Parents navigating bedtime battles or emotionally exhausting evenings
Toddlers who resist sleep, seem hyper before bed, or struggle to settle
Families experiencing frequent night wakings or restless sleep
Parents curious about sensory processing, regulation, and child behavior
Families looking for a deeper understanding of why traditional sleep advice may not be working
This is not a cry-it-out workshop or a rigid sleep training class.
Our goal is to help parents better understand what may actually be happening underneath their child’s sleep struggles so they can approach bedtime with more clarity, confidence, and realistic expectations.
